James Wood High School baseball player John Copenhaver announced last week that he will play for Penn State Mont Alto in college.

The versatile Copenhaver was a catcher for the Colonels but will play shortstop for the Nittany Lions. Penn State Mont Alto competes in the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC), which is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).

Copenhaver was selected to the Class 4 All-Northwestern District First Team this season as a designated hitter after batting a team-best .329 (23-for-70). He also had a .448 on-base percentage and 12 RBIs.

The Nittany Lions went 29-16 (14-6 PSUAC) this year and advanced to the conference championship game.

Copenhaver will study business.
