WINCHESTER — Carder Smith struck out seven and allowed two hits in six innings to lift James Wood to victory in its season opener Friday against Luray at R. Charles Hott Field.

KaCee Duggan struck out two batters in a hitless seventh to earn the save for the Colonels (1-0), who scored both their runs in the fourth inning.

Duggan also went 3 for 3 with a walk, RBI and run scored, and Noah Keller, Zach Thompson and Kristian Malsch each had one hit for James Wood.
