WINCHESTER — In a Northwestern District doubleheader consisting of five-inning games, James Wood defeated Skyline 5-1 in seven innings in Game 1 as the road team and 3-1 in Game 2 on Wednesday.
Trenton Campbell (2-2) went the distance in the first game, allowing four hits while striking out nine batters. Joel Smith (3-4) threw a complete game in the second contest, allowing four hits and striking out seven.
In Game 1, James Wood (8-11, 3-4 district) recorded three of its four hits in the seventh. A Hunter Gorman single, a Brady Renner walk and an error on a sacrifice bunt by Sam Ellingsworth loaded the bases, Tanner George had an RBI single to make it 2-1, Campbell had a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1, and Ben Russo drove in two runs with a double to close the scoring.
Russo had two doubles (the team’s only two hits) and an RBI in Game 2 for James Wood.
