WINCHESTER — James Wood pitchers Joel Smith and Cameron Gross combined to shut out Harrisonburg in the Conference 21 West baseball quarterfinals at R. Charles Hott Field on Friday night.
Smith allowed four hits and struck out six through six innings. Gross worked the final inning to get the save.
The Colonels scored one run in the third and two more in the fifth. Smith’s RBI single scored Tyler Matthews in the third, and Ben Russo drove in a pair of runs with a single in the fifth.
Smith went 2 for 3 with two stolen bases, and Russo also went 2 for 3.
The Colonels (8-12) travel to face top-seeded Millbrook in the tournament semifinals at 6 p.m. on Monday.
